Operation Giant Slalom: The Takedown of a 'News' Site
On November 19, 2025, the FBI seized the domain of 'The Dirty Newz,' a prominent Canadian crime blog. Simultaneously, 31-year-old Mississauga resident and site co-founder, Gursewak Singh Bal, was arrested. He is among seven Canadians charged in connection with 'Operation Giant Slalom,' an international investigation targeting the drug trafficking network allegedly led by former Olympian Ryan Wedding.
According to the federal indictment, Bal faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with a continuing criminal enterprise and conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine. Authorities allege the blog transitioned from reporting on the underworld to actively participating in it.
The Alleged $10,000 Contract
Federal prosecutors allege that the blog was weaponized to hunt down Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia, a federal witness scheduled to testify against the Wedding organization.
The indictment states that in October 2024, Wedding associate Allistair Chapman paid Bal $10,000. The agreement allegedly stipulated that Bal would stop posting about Wedding and his second-in-command, Ryan Clark, and instead focus on exposing Acebedo-Garcia so the enterprise could 'locate and kill' him.
On November 5, 2024, Bal allegedly posted a photo of the witness on 'The Dirty Newz' Instagram account with the caption: 'This guy single handedly (rat emoji) out one of the strongest underworld networks that this (world emoji) has seen. Good chance he’ll never be found again.' Investigating officers claim this was a deliberate effort to crowdsource the victim's location.
The Execution in Colombia
The digital campaign had kinetic consequences. In January 2025, Jonathan Acebedo-Garcia was shot and killed at a restaurant in Medellín, Colombia. The U.S. Justice Department alleges that Ryan Wedding sent a photo of the victim's corpse to associates as proof of the assassination.
Following the murder, Bal allegedly celebrated the event on social media. On January 31, 2025, he posted an Instagram story depicting the crime scene and the victim's body with the caption: '[Victim A] down...' and 'BOOM! Headshot.'
Evidence of Criminal Intent
The investigation into Bal and 'The Dirty Newz' extends beyond the Wedding case. The Vancouver Sun reports that the site was already under investigation in British Columbia as of November 2023 for posting sensitive internal police documents.
- Telegram Confessions: Bal allegedly bragged on Telegram about his financial ties to Wedding, writing: 'Snowboarder and his team, they gave us 10,000$ and this shit isn’t a joke.'
- Undercover Sting: In August 2025, an undercover officer contacted Bal via Instagram. Bal allegedly quoted a price of '5-6 bills' to help locate a 'rat,' and indicated the price would be higher if the client wanted the target 'blasted.'
- Pseudonym: Bal operated under the online handle '6ixademiks' and had previously claimed to be a student at Brock University.
